Founded in 1972 by Mr Ikutaro Kakehashi, Roland celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2002. Roland’s mission has always been “To Inspire the Enjoyment of Creativity and has become a true multi-national company with over 20 Roland companies, five manufacturing facilities and five Research and Development Centres around the world.

The Roland of today owes much to the use of leading-edge technologies. Roland introduced the very first electronic piano in 1973 (EP-10), followed by the introduction of the world’s first touch-sensitive digital piano in 1974 and the first electric piano to be fitted with a hammer action in 1991. Such is Mr Kakehashi’s commitment to music, Roland now boasts an award winning range of more than 40 digital pianos, including a fantastic new range of grand pianos. Roland is a key player in the expanding digital market.

Roland prides itself on giving customer satisfaction, through comprehensive production from development process to final manufacturing. The Research and Development Centres in Hamamatsu and Osaka are responsible for technologies essential for the future, while the Hosoe factory houses an extensive sound lab where new products are tested. The manufacture of some products now uses a unique “cell” production system in which a single worker completely assembles each product from start to finish. This ensures high quality products.

Andrea, Caroline, Sharon and Jim were encouraged to play instruments at an early age by their musical parents and have now sold over 25 million records around the world, with their albums going platinum in more than 20 countries! Hits such as “Runaway”, “What Can I Do?”, “So Young” and “Only When I Sleep” also earned the group the prestigious “Best International Band” title at the 1999 Brit Awards.

The band has recently taken delivery of several Roland KR-15 Grand Pianos, one of which is used by Jim Corr as his main songwriting instrument, with another taking up permanent residence on stage during their live shows.

ALED JONES received international success as a boy treble after joining the Bangor Cathedral Choir at the age of nine. Aled trained at the Royal Academy of Music and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and these days is a familiar face on Songs of Praise, and in the classical music charts.

	HOWARD GOODALL is best known for his catchy theme tunes – Blackadder, Red Dwarf, The Vicar of Dibley, to name just a few. He’s one of Britain’s busiest and most sought-after composers, writing not only TV and film music, but also choral and theatre works. He also writes and presents his own series on Channel 4.

RICHARD STILGOE is best known for his work on hit stage shows Phantom of The Opera, Starlight Express, and Cats. A leading composer and lyricist, with a real passion for music, he has now set up the Orpheus Centre, a performing arts centre for young disabled people.
