Warren Haynes notes influential impact of musical heroes

Aspiring guitar players may well want to spend time studying the techniques of their favourite musicians in order to hone their own skills following the comments of Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes.

Speaking to Guitar International, Haynes - who has played with The Allman Brothers Band and The Grateful Dead among others - reveals that Otis Redding, Cream and Jimi Hendrix were some of the acts he listened to as a child and who ultimately inspired him to seek out a career as a professional musician.

"It's hard for me to imagine my music being as important to someone else as the things I grew up listening to were to me. But I guess it is that way," he claims.

Haynes adds that as The Allman Brothers were one of his favourite acts when he was a youngster, to be a part of the band when the group reformed in the late 1980s was "a pretty cool feeling".

Meanwhile, David Feinstein of Ronnie Dion & The Prophets told Guitar International that while he was inspired by Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore, it is important that upcoming guitarists seek out their own style in order to stand out from the crowd.
