Tips for beginner piano players

Posted by Jamie Franklin
Individuals who are starting out on the piano need to make sure they are familiar with music theory.
This is the suggestion of David Nevue, a soloist and composer, who gave the advice on his official website and noted while it is the "least fun part of learning", it is still essential.
He added something else people should do is make sure they listen to as much piano music as they possibly can.
"Pick out some of the slow songs, sit at the piano with your CD player beside you and figure out, by ear, what notes are being played. This helps train your hearing," Nevue observed.
The expert stated beginner piano players have to learn to pick up the main theme of a song, because very often it will be repeated throughout it.
Nevue - who founded Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio - also thinks people should take the time to work on their scales, as they will improve dexterity as well as train their fingers around the instrument.
