The challenge of joining an established band

Bands don't always split when one musician decides to move on, as there is always the option of getting in a replacement.

However, being a new member of an established group can present certain problems, and how you deal with them could be crucial to your future in the band.

Groups have a certain chemistry, both musically and personality-wise, so your aim should be to slot in unobtrusively without changing the dynamics too much.

While you may be able to assert your own personality and creative ideas further down the line, in the early days your focus should probably remain on simply trying to fit in.

But many musicians have noticed that actually joining an existing band and learning their set is relatively simple in comparison to winning over the fans.

Devotees of a band can be particularly frightened of a change in the line-up, so trying to fit in rather than making huge waves during the early days could help to placate and assure them that their favourite group is still marching on as usual.
