Successful musicians 'must be good at talking to people'

Artists who enjoy a successful career in the music industry need far more than musical ability, one musician has revealed.

Daisy Coburn, who performs under the banner of Daisy Dares You, is rapidly making a name for herself and was even longlisted for the BBC's Sound of 2010 poll.

However, she stated that in the last few months, she has become increasingly aware of the importance and value of good interpersonal skills.

"When you get into this industry, you don't realise that you have to be a great performer," she told Digital Spy.

"You have to be good at talking to people."

She added that she finds the amount of attention her music is receiving very exciting, but admitted that criticism still jars slightly.

Indeed, she stated that if 99 people said they enjoyed her songs and one person said they did not, it would be the latter person that affects her most deeply.

"But this is my life now and I think I'm dealing with it well," she insisted, before adding that she believes 2010 will be the best year of her life.

The BBC has already described her brand of music as bubblegum punk, with songs aimed firmly at the teen market.
