Steve Vai discusses what guitar players can learn from Jimi Hendrix

Whether you are a guitar novice or a virtuoso like Steve Vai, all players of the instrument can learn something from Jimi Hendrix's work.
Vai has written a blog for Music Radar, discussing the influence the late guitar player had on his life and work.
Although the singer-songwriter did not inspire Vai to pick up a guitar for the first time - that was Led Zeppelin - his records had a big impact on his playing.
In particular, Vai was impressed by the range of styles that Hendrix incorporated into his tunes to make something which was "uniquely his own".
"Blues, rock, jazz, the psychedelic stuff, even folk music like [Bob] Dylan - nothing got past him. That made a big impression on me," he commented.
Earlier this week, Eric Johnson - another acclaimed guitar player - spoke to the news provider about Hendrix's influence on the use of the instrument.
He said that the use of feedback is something he learned from the Crosstown Traffic hit maker, who died in 1970.
