Start a side project if you are in a band

Musicians in established bands can sometimes get ideas that don't fit with the overall ethos and style of the group.
Alternatively, the band may be a democracy and everyone has to make compromises to accommodate each member, so certain songs and concepts may fall by the wayside.
However, this does not mean they should simply be forgotten about, as there is nothing that says the group has to be a musician's sole creative outlet.
Many artists enjoy forming a side project, in which they can step outside the boundaries imposed by their main band and experiment with alternative styles.
And all of this can be done without the group actually having to split up. Band members can make the most of their time off the road and out of the studio to work on outside musical interests and different ideas.
A side project can also allow a musician to showcase other talents and do things they could never ordinarily do.
For instance, a band's drummer could easily be a nifty lead vocalist or guitar player as well, so they may be keen to use these skills.
Side projects can get the creative juices flowing and ensure that every member of the group has the opportunity to express themselves creatively - all of which can be a positive thing when the band reconvenes for their next album and tour.
