Remember to warm up before playing the drums

A set of drums is one of the most physically intensive instruments you can play.
So if you are taking to the stage for any length of time, you must warm up if you want to avoid getting an injury.
You will be using all four limbs during the show and putting in the same amount of energy as an athlete who is running a race - so you need to be in peak condition.
If you damage a muscle, tendon or ligament because you haven't warmed up ahead of a gig, the show is off.
And if you are on tour or scheduled to play again within the next few days, you could be putting future gigs at risk.
So carry out a few stretching and drumming exercises ahead of each gig to get the blood flowing and get your body used to working this way.
This doesn't have to take any longer than 20 minutes and can be a constructive way to use the time you spend hanging around backstage.
