Relax your hands while playing the drums, Police sticksman says

It is important to relax the hands while playing the drums, according to The Police's Stewart Copeland.
The sticksman told Rhythm magazine that doing this is one of the key lessons he has learned during his 25-year career.
However, he explained that the hands and wrists are the only things that should be relaxed when it comes to drumming, as playing the instrument requires musicians are sharp and ready for action.
Copeland was also asked about how drums have changed during his career in the music industry.
He responded: "[There's] better gear and more variety. My favourite new toy is the double bass drum pedal. Of course, it's every bass player's least favourite invention."
Copeland played the drums in Sting's group on hits such as Every Breath You Take, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic and Message in a Bottle.
The band reunited for a world tour in 2007 and 2008.
