Queen drummer invites musicians to complete song

Category: Making Music

Musicians are being invited by Roger Taylor of Queen to add their own words to a brand new instrumental track.

A new single is being released by the legendary drummer via the official Queen website next week.

The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken) has been described by Taylor as a protest song, as it features his views on issues as diverse as speed cameras and the war in Afghanistan.

One of the tracks on the CD release will be an instrumental version of the same song and Taylor wants people to use it as a platform to write a protest song of their own.

"You know who to send it to," he commented.

"Like everyone, [I] have the right to say something about the state of control we live under - powerless to do anything about it."

Taylor is no stranger to making statements on record, as his Queen composition Radio Ga Ga was a critique of how he believed music videos had become more important than the song itself.

This latest single is Taylor's first solo release since his Electric Fire album in 1998, although he and Brian May issued The Cosmos Rocks album with ex-Free frontman Paul Rodgers last year.
