Posture 'is important' when playing piano

Posted by Helen Whitten

Those who are learning how to play the piano need to consider their posture, it has been claimed.

According to pianolessons.com, this is an essential part of the process of mastering the instrument, as slouching can lead to reduced mobility.

It is vitally important that people do not get themselves into bad habits, as the longer they practice in the wrong way they harder it may be to shake it.

"Make sure of is that your elbows are at a 90-degree angle. If your elbows are outstretched further than that, you have your piano bench set too far back," the news provider advised.

While a good posture is important, it added artistic movement at the right part of songs, such as that displayed by Coldplay's Chris Martin, is acceptable and can sometimes enhance the overall effect.

Ben Folds and Jamie Cullum are other examples of musicians who like to get caught up in the emotion of playing piano on stage.
