Porcupine Tree drummer 'helps band raise their game'

Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson has highlighted how Gavin Harrison - the band's drummer - makes the rest of the group step up their playing.

Speaking to Music Radar, Wilson notes how Harrison is "the musician of the band", praising his technical understanding of music and how he is able to use his instrument to avoid the generic drum patterns that can often be heard in rock music.

"His timing is perfect and it really makes you raise your own game to another level; it's not enough to just to go on stage and play sloppy rock 'n' roll guitar," he states, adding how the rest of the group have to be "pretty on the nail" when they play live.

Aspiring drummers may also want to bear in mind the advice of Gordy, drummer of Australian punk band Frenzal Rhomb, who told Kill Your Stereo that budding musicians should listen to Danzig I on a daily basis.
