Phil Collins adapts drumming style for new album

Phil Collins has revealed the unusual new drumming style he used while recording his latest album.

The former Genesis sticksman told the Daily Star he was forced to tape his drumsticks to his hands in order to complete work on Going Back, a collection of Motown covers.

Collins has had numerous operations to help cure his spinal cord injury, but he has still been left in significant pain.

Although he originally planned to retire a few years ago following a farewell tour, he found the temptation to record new material too much.

Speaking about his new drumming style, Collins remarked: "It's the only way I can play. It wasn't particularly comfortable but I managed to get the right noise and the performance I wanted."

Following his career behind the drumkit with Genesis, the rock star has gone on to enjoy a successful solo career and has enjoyed hits with the likes of Easy Lover.

He also contributed his track the Circle of Life to Disney animated film the Lion King.
