Nashville guitarist notes sources of inspiration

Nashville-based musician Randy Stephens has spoken of how his playing style has been influenced by some of the world's greatest guitarists.

In an interview with Guitar International, Stephens notes his love for the instrument came in the late 1970s upon hearing Eruption by Van Halen, "after that I was hooked onto anything guitar".

And as he grew older and developed an interest in playing professionally, the musician points out that he became a fan of the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Angus Young and Neal Schon.

However, it was his older brother Chuck's advice to listen to BB King and learn how to play the blues that had a major impact on the instrumental guitarist's career.

"I wouldn't admit it at the time, but little did I know then how right he was," he states, claiming that he loves to play "heavily blues-rock".

Meanwhile, jazz guitarist Tyler Ross told the publication how he "memorised all the Beatles albums" when growing up, although he also listened to a number of contemporary artists such as Damien Rice and Iron and Wine.
