Muse 'most popular' social media act

Posted by Martyn Hopkins

Muse have claimed the title of the most popular act in terms of social media from July to December 2010.

Despite not having an album out in over 13 months, the three-piece have managed to remain fashionable with readers, according to We Are Hunted.

In order to draw up the chart, the research group looked at 486,631 music articles and 16,063,656 music-related Twitter mentions.

Other notable acts in the list are The xx at number three, Arcade Fire in fifth position and Kings of Leon come in at tenth.

We Are Hunted co-founder and chief technology officer Stephen Phillips noted his company mainly ignores the mainstream press when it comes to compiling its list.

"Maybe we are getting a measure of dedicated music fans than the general populace," he told Read Write Web.

Mr Phillips pointed to Arcade Fire as an example of a band who know how to successfully utilise social media.
