Midge Ure outlines aim to revitalise music industry

Midge Ure has said he hopes his new website will have a positive effect on the music industry.
The former Ultravox frontman, whose hits include Vienna, is behind a site called Tunited, which allows artists to promote their music and network with likeminded people, including musicians and fans.
Acts can earn money every time a song is either streamed or downloaded, which means they are earning valuable revenue at a time when many consumers are obtaining music for free.
"We need to put value back in music - it's not right that it's given away in Sunday papers and people just steal it," Ure commented.
Speaking to STV, he said major companies in the music industry are struggling to afford to invest in new talent because of free downloading.
Ure, who has also played in Thin Lizzy and Visage, warned that this could result in an eventual dearth of music in the future.
