Lars Ulrich: Drummers should protect their ears
Category: Drums
People who play the drums have been encouraged to protect their ears when behind the kit.
According to Lars Ulrich, the drummer in rock group Metallica, he suffers from a constant ringing in the ears called tinnitus.
He told CNN that he developed the condition because he never used to wear any form of ear protection during his younger days.
Ulrich has urged other people not to make the same mistake and ensure they take care of their ears.
"Once your hearing is gone, it's gone and there's no real remedy," he commented.
The drummer added that he first noticed a problem with his ears during the late 1980s, when he woke up in the middle of the night hearing an ongoing ringing sound.
"I realised that maybe I had some issues," he said.
According to Saga, about one in ten adults in the UK currently suffer from tinnitus.
Famous people with the condition include former Police frontman Sting and Pete Townshend of The Who.
