How to promote your album

After you've recorded your debut album, you want it to be heard by a wide audience.
Fortunately, there are many options available to musicians to make your new songs known to people.
There are lots of online showcases, such as MySpace and YouTube, but while these can be good promotional tools, they don't actually give people the chance to purchase your work.
So if you put tracks on these sites, make sure they form part of a wider promotional campaign.
It could incorporate emailing everyone who has so far shown an interest in your music and uploading something to every music site around.
But traditional media such as newspapers can still be a valuable promotional tool as well, particularly if you have a unique selling point that might get a journalist interested.
For example, you could be creative if you're staging a CD release party and offer more than just a bog-standard gig.
Get in touch with local CD shops and radio stations - you'll be seen and heard every day of the week if you talk them into giving you a platform.
You can't be everywhere all the time, so trying to get support from contacts in this way can get the ball rolling and help build up momentum.
