How to make your first gig a success

Gigs can be challenging for even the most experienced pros, as musicians have to win over and engage the audience, play competently and maybe manage any technical issues that occur during the show.
For those with plenty of experience to draw upon, they can take it in their stride, but those who have never gigged before may be overwhelmed by the situation.
Therefore, there are certain things that simply must be done before you take to the stage for the first time.
Arrive at the venue in plenty of time so you can spend these hours getting your sound right, getting psyched up and avoiding a last-minute rush to set up.
Ensure all your gear works as it should and that you have spares of items like plectrums and guitar strings - lacking even little things can potentially ruin a song or the whole gig, so it is important to be prepared.
And when the gig itself comes round, make sure you are constantly communicating with your bandmates when you are on stage.
You can't afford to drift off and lose concentration, as this is when mistakes happen.
Finally, if someone does fluff a solo or play the wrong chord, just carry on. The audience will respect you far more if you are able to get it back together without stopping the song and starting again.
