How to get a festival slot

Musicians have been handed advice on how to get a festival slot by Bestival organiser Rob da Bank.

Speaking to the Metro, he said it could be a good idea to send CDs or mp3s to festival promoters.

While Rob acknowledged that this is an "old school" method of getting a gig, he insisted that it does still work.

Artists were also encouraged to make sure they offer something unique and different, as this would make promoters far more likely to put them on the bill.

Bands and solo acts were then told to start with small festivals and gradually work their way up to playing larger events.

"If you can, offer to play for free," Rob added.

"It'll give you the experience you need and it'll help get your band name out there."

This year's Bestival gets underway on the Isle of Wight next month, with acts such as Ellie Goulding, Rolf Harris and The Prodigy all set to appear.
