Guitar band Kings of Leon 'ad-libbed new album's lyrics'

Guitar band Kings of Leon have said the lyrics to their new album Come Around Sundown were made up as they went along.

The US group's frontman Caleb Followill told Uncut magazine that he ad-libbed the words with a view to going back and redoing them once the music tracks had been laid down.

However, his bandmates were so impressed with his freestyle singing that they opted to keep the original recordings.

"I free-floated everything," Followill explained. "When I went back in to try to do that [re-record them], everyone was like, 'What are you doing? You can't change those lyrics. Those are the lyrics'."

Come Around Sundown is the follow-up to 2008's Only By The Night, the success of which saw the Nashville band headline festivals such as Reading and Leeds and Glastonbury.

Fledgling bands considering following Kings of Leon's lead and ad-libbing lyrics in the studio may wish to keep a couple of important points in mind.

While wealthy rock stars can spend time and money getting their songs right, DIY musicians may be better advised to bring finished tracks to the studio to ensure they make the most of the sessions.
