Get on the right side of the press

Prominent musicians rely on the mass media a great deal, so it is important to build up a positive relationship with journalists and newspapers.
But with countless acts all trying to get favourable coverage, you might end up trying too hard to court media interest, possibly to the point where the journalist doesn't want anything to do with you.
So pestering every time you have to wait more than ten minutes for them to return a call won't be a way to make friends. Make yourself available and maybe remind them of your contact details, but don't start annoying them.
Adopting a positive and professional attitude is important in every area of dealing with the press, especially when you are being interviewed. You want to put across a favourable image, so you have very little to gain from giving a journalist a good reason to paint a negative picture of you.
And remember, journalists do not want to spend ages researching their articles, so ensure your PR kit contains only the most relevant information and suitable photographs.
They won't go wading through your life story to find a hook for an article - so you must provide the information in a quick and easily digestible way.
