Foo Fighters to broadcast gig live on Facebook

The growing influence of the internet on the music industry has been underlined by the Foo Fighters, who plan to broadcast an entire gig online.

Dave Grohl and co will be performing at Studio 606 in California this evening and the whole performance can be seen live as it happens on Facebook.

Fans in the UK will have to log on to the social networking site at 02:00 GMT if they wish to see the band's performance.

This comes shortly after Irish rockers U2 streamed their gig at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena live on YouTube.

Almost ten million web users in 188 different countries logged on to watch the performance from Bono and the band.

This made Sunday night's gig, which saw U2 perform in front of 97,000 fans, the largest streaming event in the history of YouTube.

The band have now made the entire gig available to view on their official website.
