Be inspired by classic guitar players, advises Ronnie Wood

Ronnie Wood has said that aspiring guitarists should learn as much as they can from legendary players of the instrument.

The Rolling Stones and Faces member told the Daily Mail that he was inspired by The Beatles and Chuck Berry when he was getting started in music back in the 1960s.

He also revealed he was influenced by celebrated bluesmen such as Blind Willie McTell and Big Bill Broonzy.

Wood claimed that people learning the guitar should never worry about ripping off their heroes as "you can never copy someone completely".

He added: "You end up developing your own style - I'm still working at it now."

The guitar and bass player also discussed the craft of songwriting, explaining that he normally begins with a catchy riff and a memorable phrase and it "rolls from there".

In a long and varied career spanning five decades, Wood has also played in bands such The Birds and The Jeff Beck Group.
