The Brit Awards 2014 – guess who’s using Roland and Boss gear

British Breakthrough Act

Bastille use of Boss guitar effects pedals including the DA-2, TE-2 and MO-2, along with Roland TD-4KP V-Drums, SPD-SX and a Roland Juno G. Bastille came down to see us last year as their rise to fame was taking hold. Tight drum beats and festival ready chorus’s are a winning formula.

Disclosure-Gaia, SPD-SX, V Drum pads The brothers a certainly causing a stir right now. Stacked with Roland gear for the new garage sound the UK has been addicted to. Check their own producing work with the likes of Azealia Banks and Q Tip remix.

Tom Odell-LX-15, FP-80 Tom told us in a recent interview he has used Roland since he was 10, and wouldn’t use anything else. Good to hear from last years Critics Choice, and best newcomer winner. Soon to be sporting the new LX-15e, keep your eye out for him on tour in 2014.

Best British Female Solo

Birdy on the V Piano Grand- That voice! Go see her live and double it up by hearing the amazing tone of the V Piano Grand.

Ellie Goulding featuring the SPD-SX, RE-20, PD-8, KD-7, TM-2, RT-10 triggers. It’s been quite the few years for Ellie. Teaming up with her boyfriend Skrillex has seen the rise of new beats and seeing the drum gear she owns, it’s easy to see why this is a live show to be reckoned with.

Jessie J using the SPD-SX, Gaia Taking a break from The Voice to concentrate on the next tour, our man on bass and keys Phil Simmonds is back after playing some shows with Angel Haze.

Laura Mvula on the Roland Gaia Did you see her on Jools Holland? Wow. Incredible is a word that surrounds this lady. Gaia in tow for subtle synth tones are a lovely addition to this tight band.

British Group

One Direction – drums backup using  Roland TD-30KV Say what you like about the biggest boy band in the world, but you can’t know their drum sound yeah?!

Rudimental adds the V-Drum pads, Jupiter 50, AX-Synth, Juno 106 Amir from the drum n bass masters came down to our studio not long ago to test out the Jupiter 50 with Kitmonsters. Since then their rise has been swift and rightly so. It’s hard to mix soul vibes with drum n bass, but these guys have managed to nail it.

British Male Solo

David Bowie, what more could be said about him? But helping him to create his unique sound is a host of Roland and Boss products uncluding: ME-80, TE-2, DA-2, SL-20, RE-20, RC-30 guitar effects pedals, the TR-808 Drum machine, G-5 Strat. Keep checking this site and Power On for details of two of our best interviews yet. Gerry Leonard and Tony Visconti talk about their products, their top tips, and the thin white duke himself.

James Blake-SP-404SX, SPD-SX One of the best second records ever for me, sparse and haunting with the signature loop sound we are loving, James Blake deserves an award here.

Tom Odell on his favourite Roland LX-15, FP-80. After he explained in our recent video interview with Tom Odell, he has tried other pianos, but nothing comes close to his beloved LX-15. Having the FP-80 to practice and record on before the shows is a real bonus. Check out the video now.

British Single

Bastille, Disclosure, Ellie G, One D, Rudimental-See above

Album of the year

Bastille, David B, Disclosure, Rudimental-See above

International Male Solo Artist

Bruno Mars on the V-Piano It was his Grammy performance last year that led Bruno to get a V-Piano stage, and after seeing a pic of him jamming with Lenny Kravitz in his dressing room, we know he also has an RD-700NX. Double whammy!

Eminem uses Fantoms, TD-30KV, SPD-SX Have you heard ‘Rap God’ yet? I’ve said it before but it’s one of the best come back singles ever in my opinion. Slick as ever, he keeps surprising us with his razor sharp spits. Headlining the recent Beats App party with Dr Dre has cemented his comeback. Thank god!

Justin Timberlake-SPD-SX, Fantoms, JP-80

International Group

Arcade Fire-V Piano People often band around the phrase ‘Best band in the world right now’ when talking about this lot, and they’re probably right. Mixed reviews for the recent record produced by James Murphy doesn’t seem to be slowing them down. Stunning in every way. A little birdy tells me their favourite patch on the V-Piano is Vintage Piano 1. Sssshhhh.

Haim-SPD-SX x 2 Is there a better young female band around? Alright, maybe Savages, but Haim are concurring both sides of the water with their Fleetwood Mac-esqe tunes to die for.

International Female Solo Artist

Janelle Monae using the Roland Gaia, shes a dancer, singer, songwriter, performer? All the above and for those who have seen her live, its easy to see why.

Katy Perry-Jupiter 80 You can’t deny her power. The most followed Twitterer is back with a new record, and looks like more awards. It’s all in the synth ok?

Lady Gaga-AX Synth, V Piano Grand, Gaia, Fantoms, JP-80, TD-30KV Queen of avante Garde pop is always forgotten when it comes to a musician. Nailing solos on our keytar or grand pianos for years now, we predict more success for years to come.

Pink-Fantoms It takes a lot of power to fill a stadium with electronic music. Expect to see the new Fantoms out with Pink soon.

David Bowie

We went to meet Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti and guitarist Gerry Leonard nearly a year ago. We interviewed them both recently, (out soon) and discussed the use of some Roland and Boss gear that was used on excellent The Next day, and still being used on their own projects. Arguably the greatest rock n roller to ever come from these fair shores, David Bowie continues to lead the way in the fusion of music, art, fashion and buzz. Showing Beyonce how to drop an album without telling anybody speaks volumes, considering people thought he was on his death bed. “David Bowie is extremely healthy” assures Tony Visconti. You can almost imagine him at home in Soho NYC, laughing to himself as the industry twitch as to whether he’ll play Glastonbury, or the O2, heck anywhere! Long may he reign over us…
