Roland UK talk exclusively with brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence

As a ten-year-old drummer, Guy Lawrence’s first Roland purchase was a modest double-bass pedal. A decade down the line, as this exclusive gear walkthrough video reveals, the Disclosure man is armed to the teeth with Roland gear to make the show go off. Onstage, it’s the Roland Juno that supplies the sub throb of Boiling, while a Roland V-Drums kit is used for live beats and triggers, and an SPD-SX Sample Pad delivers everything from the bass in F For You to the call-to-arms vocal that kicks off Latch. “The crowd just goes crazy when you play that,” grins Guy, “and then you drop in the main beat…”

Mixing up a molotov cocktail of samples and live instrumentation, Disclosure shows aren’t like normal dance sets – so it follows that Howard Lawrence’s stage setup goes further than your average dullsville DJ. Check out this exclusive video gear rundown, in which Howard reveals how he uses his Roland Gaia synth to supply sub, pads and chords on bangers like F For You, Latch and White Noise, while turning to Roland’s SPD-SX Sample Pad to trigger the electrifying vocal of Grab Her! “Ever since we got the SPD,” notes Howard, “it’s never missed a beat…”
