Andertons, Guildford
Roland Planet Guildford is a short walk from the city centre, and is located within the family-run music store, Andertons Music Co. Guildford is a peaceful Surrey Hills market town, dating back to Saxon times. It has a rich and diverse culture, with a plethora of art galleries, museums, theatres, castle ruins and a wide variety of eating and drinking venues.
Established in 1964, Andertons has nearly 50 years of experience serving the music community in the UK, offering musicians a huge selection of guitars, amps, drums, pianos, keyboards, synthesizers, recording equipment, PA systems and more! The Musician’s No.1 Superstore has been recognised on many occasions by the Music Industries Association (MIA), winning the Best Music Retailer Award in 2006, 2008 & 2010.
Formerly a concession at the Debenhams department store in the city centre, The Roland Planet at Andertons was established in September 2008, and has been manned by Kevin Jubb since March 2010. Having begun playing the piano aged five, Kevin is now a multi-instrumentalist including guitar and drums, and can be found most days riffing Ray Charles’ licks in the piano department. Kevin has been playing in bands since he was 14, and is now the silent member of Portsmouth-based, psychedelic rockers, Watashi Calcutecs. As well as having a broad range of musical knowledge, Kevin is a music production specialist, having completed a degree course in the subject in 2010.
One of Guildford’s most notable musical talents were The Stranglers, famed for their song Golden Brown which peaked in the UK charts at No.2 in 1982. Roland Planet Guildford, and Andertons Music Co, hope that they can assist local musical talent to go one better.
